Medibank Private awards managed services contract to Datacom
Sydney, Australia – 9th May 2005:
Datacom Systems (Datacom) today announces it has won a midrange services and facilities management contract with Medibank Private.
Under the terms of the multi million dollar three year deal, Datacom will centralise the private health insurer’s operations to its Melbourne-based GlobalCenter data centre as the first step in delivering greater efficiencies to Medibank Private’s operations.
Medibank Private is Australia’s largest and only national health fund, providing private health insurance to more than three million Australians, or over 30 percent of the country’s privately insured population. The agreement involves consolidating Medibank Private’s extensive Midrange and Intel server infrastructure (currently located at five independent sites) into Datacom’s purpose-built, secure GlobalCenter facility and a separate DRP facility, centralising Medibank Private’s entire IT midrange infrastructure.
Datacom assumes full responsibility for Medibank Private’s environment, including 24x7x365 management, operational and technical support of its DB2, Wintel and Unix infrastructure.
Medibank Private’s decision to award the contract to Datacom follows a strategic review of Medibank’s outsourcing arrangements within its boarder IT Strategy followed by a closed, rigorous and competitive tender process with a number of outsourcing providers.
Datacom responded with a competitive solution to meet Medibank Private’s requirements.
Surinder Singh, Chief Information Officer, Medibank Private, said, “Datacom responded to our need to transition our entire Midrange environment, housed in five separate data centres, to their facilities seamlessly, and to provide a facilities management environment that was secure and responsive”. Michael Browne, Chief Executive Officer, Datacom Systems, adds, “Datacom is pleased by the confidence Medibank Private has placed in us.
We are delighted to be one of the technology partners of choice for Medibank Private.
We are looking forward to building a long, collaborative partnership.
“More broadly, we see this contract as a testimony to the strategic importance of the combined Datacom - GlobalCenter entity, and to the depth and breadth of our Facilities Management, managed services and DRP offering,” he finishes.
The midrange infrastructure and services were transitioned over a four week period with no disruption to the Medibank business.
